Leaden Sky: Nightmares is a linear single player, FPS horror game, prequel to story of original Leaden Sky (not a replacement for it)

GAMEPLAY:

Leaden Sky: Nightmares is a horror game with a solid and responsive combat system, featuring precise collision for melee weapon (axe) which hits exactly where you swing during attack, on top of that character movement includes ability to quickly dodge and hit back, creating intensive encounters.

Firearms feature procedural recoil system which realistically simulates spread and allows bullets to land exactly where the barrel is aiming, creating more challenge for the player.

Enemy AI is aggresive and unpredictable, resulting in unique encounters each time. Thanks to dynamic patrolling system you will often see enemies in unexpected areas, this creates an unique horror experience without jumpscares.

STORY:

The story revolves around half-polish US veteran - Kyle Anderson, who resigned army to seek for peaceful life as power plant security guard in Poland. Said power plant uses experimental techonology based on one of Tesla's prototypes and required modification of already existing coal based power plant, which is why the company responsible for that needed experienced veterans to protect it.

As the time passes Kyle starts noticing strange electrical phenomena in his workplace and hearing strange stories from people living in the city.
One day he witnessed something terrifying and starts experiencing nightmares...

Love your game and have been following you for quite some time. How do I get past that weird energy ball that keeps following me around?

(4 edits) (+1)

Hey there, the electric ball, also called spherical lighting is randomly floating around the underground tunnels.

Best strategy is to pick up a key from room on the left side near underground entrance, then go down the main corridor and turn right after you pass 3 locked doors, use the key to open doors to storage room and take pistol, smg and pistol ammo from the ground.

Now instead of trying to get around the anomaly, try to defeat monsters with weapons you just got. After you are done you need to carefully observe where the anomaly is flying, it's movements are random so it's best to advance when it gets far away and you stop hearing the buzzing sound. You need to run around a long horizontal wall at the end of main corridor and find a second tunnel which will lead you to dead end with locked doors and key to pick up. You will need to use that key to open doors downstairs on the opposite site, also when you find the key you need to run away as fast as you can and if the anomaly gets close - try to lose it with circular movement around the tunnels, you will eventually find a way downstaris which will require the last key you picked up previously. I hope that helps, let me know if you keep having problems with that section and I will find a way to blance it a bit better

By the way, new update is out, I have rebalanced the anomaly ;)

Man the horror aspect of this was done really well, the enemy behavior makes it feel like they're constantly stalking you, I felt like I was on edge the whole time and I was constantly listening for any noises as I navigated the area. You did a really good job making a sense of tension and paranoia throughout the game

(+1)

Thanks, I'm glad those gameplay mechanics worked as intended. In future I plan to expand sound design aspect to make the experience even better

(+2)

dude the way you use audio is terrifying, i nearly shat myself!!! this gives me cry of fear or killing floor 1 vibes

(+1)

thanks a lot, I'm glad the horror works well and I still have some new ideas for future updates. Audio is certainly going to be a big part of that, after all I found horror of unknown to be very effective

My First Impression to The New Update!

Commentary in the Description!

(+1)

Pretty cool! Would you like to do some commentary gameplay some day? During the video

oh well, i record using windows screen recording and the mic simply didn't work on the test recording

(+2)

okay so these are my quick thoughts: Definitely an improvement over the first demo, I love how there are no game files, only an .exe lol Game itself was pretty creepy, those shadowy enemies startled me. Well done on the amtosphere, it is very spooky indeed. Do you think you can add support for wider screens as well ? like 32:9 aspect ratio and stuff. That would be awesome. Keep up the great work and I am looking forward to see more!

(1 edit) (+1)

That's embed pck, pretty cool feature, basically keeps everything packed in exe and unpacks it when you launch the game, it's a great way to keep files together.

Ha, I'm glad the horror stuff worked! Thanks man, as for the screen resolutions I'll implement a couple of screen ratios sometime later, there shouldn't be too much problem with that.

(+1)

Very nice, I will be following the project of course, like always ;) Take care!

(+2)

Instant download - awesome! Thanks for posting :)

(+2)

I just tried the new demo and I liked it, it was very short so I don't really have many comments on it. I died once before I realized you could pick up the flashlight so I was pretty much blind until then, but after that I was able to actually play the game.
The visuals have improved, the player movement has improved and it's definitely more balanced without the infinite ammo aspect. I'm looking forward to the next release!

(+2)

Thanks a lot! The demo was basically just a little experiment to see how people will react to this kind of project. A lot of the horror and atmosphere related things might appear in the main LS project aswell, depending on the feedback from community. So far people have been really positive about this project so I'll gladly continue it as it's also  easy to develop.

(+2)

I didn't mention the cutscenes in the beginning, they were really well made and I think the opening with the view of the power plant through binoculars was pretty cool, I've been following and playing Leaden Sky for a while and I've never skipped the cutscenes. I'm sure they take a lot of time to make (especially the art) and they're always interesting to watch!

(+2)

Oh yeah, took me a while to draw them, honestly I was considering 3D cutscenes too, but I was concerned it could turn out quite generic and souless, so yeah, I'm gonna stick to hand drawn ones and I'm glad to see you enjoyed them.
